Service without a smile...

Every year car owners have their vehicles serviced without a second thought. After all, it makes sense to maintain vehicles so they are safe and reliable. But when it comes to having boilers serviced, consumers aren't always so keen and a lot of them do not bother.

However, as the weather turns colder and people switch on their central heating systems, a number of householders may find problems developing, simply because the boiler hasn't been serviced. This could prove to be far more expensive to remedy and may mean going without heat or hot water until it can be fixed.

The advice from the Institute of Plumbing is, plan in advance. Don't wait for your boiler to break down because in the winter months all professional plumbers will be so busy it may be some time before they can have a look. The best way around this is to get a competent plumber to service your boiler before the really bad weather sets in, that way you will avoid an emergency and having to possibly use a cowboy plumber.

Consumers looking for a professional plumber can visit the Institute's website www.registeredplumber.com. By putting in the first part of their postcode they will find a list of Registered Plumbers in their area. Alternatively, corporate advertisements carrying the Institute's logo can be found in Yellow Pages or Thomson Directories or members of the public can ring the Institute on 01708 472791 - Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

So, don't get caught out this winter, get your boiler serviced, even if the thought doesn't make you smile.
