Competent persons schemes

Building Regulations in England and Wales are overseen by the statutory Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and administered by Communities and Local Government (CLG). General information about voluntary competent persons schemes can be found in the Building Regulations section of the CLG website at the shortcut address www.communities.gov.uk

The Institute provides the secretariat for a Competent Person Forum which comprises scheme providers plus observers from the CLG and the Distrct Surveyers Association who represent the Building Control Service. The Forum's terms of reference are to:

Share information and attempt to solve issues of common interest; look for common approaches to common issues; make recommendations to CLG and Local Authority representatives e.g. LGA, DSA; where possible encourage co-operation between competent person self certification schemes for the common interest of stakeholders.

For general enquiries about Building Regulations Competent Persons schemes contact Danny Davis at IPHE Head Office, direct telephone: 01708 463104, e-mail Danny Davis.
